We have no own shelter, yet, and work with private foster pensions who charge us between €40-€100 per dog per month. With almost 60 rescue dogs under our wings, it costs us not less than €2500 per month to keep our dogs safe and fed. This is not included medical bills.

PLEASE NOTE:

• The vast majority of rescue organizations is overwhelmed, both logistically and financially. There wouldn’t be so many stray animals if they weren’t.
• The total cost to rescue a healthy stray dog from the streets and into a loving Home abroad, is around €1000. The cost is high due to the fact that Montenegro is not part of EU ánd classified as a high risk rabies country. This means our rescues need to undergo a rabies blood titer test, minimum a month after their rabies vaccine, and can only travel 3 months after that test.
  Find here a detailled overview of the costs we have. Note that it’s an estimate, meaning that the costs vary (depending on the vet, pension, health state of dog, etc) and are subject to change.

Please do NOT bring puppies or young dogs to a public shelter as they are all contaminated with parvo. Moreover, local shelters almost have zero output, as every dog lover in Montenegro already has (many) dogs. The best public shelter is the azil in Podgorica, as it is monitored (but not ruled) by a local rescue organization, so that the dogs are seen.

UPDATE 27-05-2023:
Currently we are struggling, both financially and logistically. This means we can only accept new dogs when their costs are fully sponsored and an end destination is waiting for them. While most tourists are incredibly caring, sadly it does happen that false promises are being made resulting in a big burden for the concerning rescue organization. If you struggle with finding help from a rescue organization, we very strongly advise you to network in following Facebook groups:
